The Arena is proud of teenage amateur boxers Alfred and Audrey Vargas. These kids have excelled in school and the boxing ring as well. Fox 5 News came to interview Alfred after being honored as the Valedictorian of his graduating class at Sweetwater High School.
Coach Basheer Abdullah:
Fox Five was here last week to interview Alfred, because they discovered an article in Star News that he was the valedictorian of his school, his graduation, which is a huge honor.
That young man is a true example of what a student athlete is. He also earned a free ride to Cal Berkeley. He’s very excited about that. He’ll be starting school in July.
It was such an honor to listen to his speech at his graduation, his valedictorian speech. The young man is just amazing. He’s a true inspiration to us all, regardless of what our age.
I’m just a proud coach and godfather. We are in training camp now. He’s scheduled to fight in Madison, Wisconsin at the Youth National, along with his sister Audrey. This will be her first national competition. Actually, it will be their first time competing at a national tournament together. So we’re excited about that, trying to create history here.
